How seasonal contracts work
With a seasonal contract, you pay a set price for the winter and every plowable snowfall is covered. Your bill is the same whether the season brings two storms or twelve. Seasonal customers are usually on a set route and get cleared first, which matters for businesses that need a clear lot before opening.
How per-push pricing works
With per-push pricing, you pay each time the plow comes out. In a light winter you'll likely spend less. In a heavy one, you'll likely spend more. Per-push customers are typically scheduled after contract customers on the same route.
What trigger depth means
The trigger depth is how much snow has to fall before the plow comes out. Around two inches is common, but a business with heavy foot traffic might want a lower trigger, while a homeowner might be fine with a higher one. Make sure the number is in writing.
Questions to ask any snow removal company
- What's the trigger depth, and can I change it?
- Is salting included, or priced separately?
- Are walkways and entrances included, or just the drive or lot?
- How soon after the snow stops will you be out?
- How are contract customers prioritized over one-off calls?
- How is billing handled, and when?
Which one should you pick?
Businesses, HOAs and anyone who needs a guaranteed clear lot usually do best with a seasonal contract. Homeowners who can wait a bit and would rather pay only for what falls often prefer per push.
